Electronic
Remittance Advice
The Edimis, Inc. ERA module will automatically post your Medicare remittance
advice. Instead of manually posting your Medicare payments and adjustments,
the carrier will place an electronic version of the EOB in your electronic
claims mailbox.
The
ERA module will "read" the electronic copy of the EOB and
post the payment and adjustments to each patient's account. This will
give your staff more time to work accounts receivable and patient collections.
This is an optional module.
Using
the ERA module does not require the use of the "Direct Deposit"
option for the receipt of Medicare or Medicaid payments. When the paper
check & EOB arrive in the office, the staff locate the HIPAA compliant
ANSI 835 file that corresponds to the paper check and the system will
post it that date, but automatically note the actual date and check
number assigned by Medicare or Medicaid.
The
ERA module posts the payments to the individual line items by assigning
each claim and each line item a unique "serial number" that
is reported within the electronic payment file from the carrier. This
has eliminated the opportunity for the system to post payments to the
wrong date of service, a problem that plagued the pre-HIPAA ERA modules.
